Section 8 Exterior Requirements: Yard, Paint, and Roof

The Outside Counts

• Paint: No peeling paint on siding or trim (Lead rule applies!).
• Handrails: Any exterior steps with 4+ risers need rails.
• Debris: Yard must be free of heavy trash, old tires, or safety hazards.
• Walkways: severe tripping hazards (tree roots uplifting concrete) can fail.
• Gutters: Must be secure (not hanging off).
